Height safety level 1

 

Duration and focus:

The objective of this one (1) day course is to provide attendees a complete picture on how to  successfully use personal protective equipment against falls in a variety of environments and scenarios.

After training, students will be able to identify the hazards associated to work at height, meet the relevant key legislation, understand the various categories of personal protective equipment against falling, including its features and limitations.

They will be able to perform a simple pre - use inspection of the devices and understand the need for record keeping, traceability and what to do with equipment that is not in a safe condition for use. Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will have the theoretical and practical skills necessary to use a wide range of fall arrest, work positioning and restraint equipment.

A key element of this course is practical application. During the exercises, candidates will perform manoeuvres in various scenarios using climbing techniques, temporary safety systems , installed, and structural anchors The training also includes a demonstration of applicable rescue techniques.

 

Requirements:

People who have a physical condition and disposition to work at height.

 

Addressed to:

This course is aimed at people who may be required to:

  • Access and work at height included in unprotected areas or without fixed anchors.
  • Use of a combination of temporary or portable anchors already installed by a competent person.
  • Movement through structures, remaining connected at all times to at least one anchor point.
  • Carry out work at height (not for rope access work).
  • This training does not include rescue, however, a demonstration of a simple rescue is carried out, so that the candidate can identify the need for specific rescue training and more experience in working at height (Safety at Height Level 2).

 

Contents:

  • Health and safety legislation relevant to the country, operating standards and the dangers of working at height.
  • How to assess hazards and implement control measures.
  • How to use fall protection equipment and understand its characteristics and limitations in different scenarios .
  • Inspection, care and maintenance of the fall protection equipment.
  • Choice of anchors for work techniques in restraint, fall protection and positioning.
  • Use of double branch anti- fall and vertical anti-fall lifelines with hooks to progress through structures and stairs.
  • Use of retractable fall arrest systems, characteristics and limitations.
  • Use of temporary protection systems against vertical and horizontal falls.
  • How to recognize and how to act in the face of suspension trauma or ortho-static syndrome.
  • Rescue plan and procedure and demonstration of rescue techniques.

Certification:

The student who passes the course receive a certificate which is valid for one (1) year.
